ITSSAR Trainer course CAT 1

The Instructor Programme

The ITSSAR CAT 1 course for trainers is a 10 day exhaustive course that will prepare the successful candidates to recognise, train and develop the skills of trainees to VR5 module standard, on Light Recovery Spec-Lift.

The course will put to the test the knowledge and ability of the individual, to train and assess other trainees and help them to develop their own skills and knowledge, adhering rigorously to the standards set for trainers by ITSSAR.

Not all candidates will have the required abilities to absorb and impart knowledge to other individuals in a professional and patient manner .
The Institute of Vehicle Recovery would like to remind companies intending to send candidates to this course to be aware of these facts when selecting
their candidates for training.

Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years' hands on experience and have successfully completed a VR module course before attending the ITSSAR CAT 1 trainer course.

The Syllabus

The course tutor will cover and continuously assess candidates throughout the course in the following areas:-

  • Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Application of Instructional Techniques
  • Implementation of Current Training Recommendations
  • Operator's Knowledge and Abilities
  • Readiness to Prepare Classroom Based Lessons
  • Skills in Delivering Practical Demonstrations
  • Preparation and Delivery of Practical Lessons
  • Basic Skills Test
  • Ability to Write Reports

The Examination:

In addition to the continuous assessment candidates are expected to pass a Theory and a Practical examination.

Theory Examination

A 60 question multiple-choice paper designed to test the theoretical knowledge of the candidates in the following areas: -

  1. The legal obligations of Employers under the Health & Safety
    at Work Act 1974 to provide instruction, training, supervision
    and safe systems of work.
  2. The current recommendations for the basic training of operators.
  3. The methodology and application of Instructional Techniques.

Practical Examination

Aimed to demonstrate the candidate's ability to : -

  1. Safely demonstrate and apply operating skills to the satisfaction
    of the examiner.
  2. Prepare and present a classroom based lesson to a group
    (minimum 15 minutes) on a subject designated by the examiner
    using : -
    • Suitable visual aids
    • The question and answer technique

  3. Conduct a practical demonstration with the designated equipment.
  4. Conduct a practical lesson containing a minimum of 2 separate demonstrations to a group of 2 trainees.
  5. Construct and conduct a recognized test of basic operating skills
    on the equipment nominated.
  6. Write an end of training report on a trainee, the specification of which will be provided by the examiner.

To achieve ITSSAR accreditation candidates must pass ALL of the 9 test outlined above.

  • Your IVR passport
  • PPE is only required for practical lessons
